How many doormen do i need for my venue?

The number of doormen required will depend on several factors, including your venue's size, capacity, type of event, and specific risk assessment. We conduct a thorough consultation to determine the optimal staffing level to ensure comprehensive safety and compliance.

The SIA does not specify a standard doormen to customer ratio. However,it is common practice for door supervisors to be employed at a ratio of 1 door    supervisor for every 100 customers in a low risk venue, this decreases to 1 door supervisor for every 75 customers for a medium risk venue, then to 1 door supervisor for every 50 customers in a high risk venue. 

But how do I know what risk my venue is? 

Before any work is completed by RAEsecuritysolutions a comprehensive risk assessment is conducted to ensure the safety of staff, customers and door supervisors. Every door supervisor is given an induction by either the head doorman of the venue or the founder of the company! This includes a guide of the companies values, policies and regulations but also the personalised risk assessment of each individual venue.

What policies and legislations need to be upheld by RAEsecuritysolutions?

Licensing Act 2003

  • Governs the sale of alcohol and operation of licensed venues
  • Door supervisors must:
    • Prevent underage drinking
    • Refuse entry to intoxicated individuals
    • Support the venue’s licence conditions (capacity, closing times, etc.)

Private Security Industry Act 2001

  • Regulates the security industry via the Security Industry Authority (SIA)
  • Requires:
    • Valid SIA Door Supervisor Licence
    • Proper training and identity display
    • Compliance with SIA standards and conduct

Health and Safety at Work Act 1974

  • Ensures safety of staff and the public
  • Responsibilities include:
    • Managing crowd safety
    • Identifying hazards (overcrowding, fire exits blocked, etc.)
